Welcome to madness! St Margaret’s House presents the reading of 'Mad Women' a play about the meaning -and curse- of 'being a woman' in arts.
“Mad Women” is a trilogy of monologues inspired by Violeta Parra, Frida Kahlo and Judith Marquez, outstanding female Latin American artists who struggled with their mental health. These monologues attempt to be fictional portrayals of their hectic mental journeys through mood disorders.
“Mad Women”’s rehearsed reading is the result of a research and development process (R&D) led by Chilean playwright and director, Constanza Hola Chamy. It explored the topic of what it means to “be a woman” nowadays from 4 different perspectives (sexuality, motherhood, women in arts and gender oppression) and how that affects women’s mental health.
This work has been done in collaboration with underrepresented communities of women as well as global majority artists with mental health challenges.
Warning: “Mad Women” occasionally contains strong language and navigates through delicate topics as domestic violence and suicide. It is not suitable for under 18.
