Access & facilities

We welcome everyone and want our site to be accessible to as many people as possible.

St Margaret’s House is spread across 14 different buildings, albeit next door to one another. These range from a Georgian terrace, street-facing shops and offices in buildings from different decades. Each space’s accessibility is slightly different, please check below before your visit.

Venue Access

  • Dog friendly

    We welcome guide, hearing and other service dogs in our buildings. If you’re booking to attend a performance, please let us know when you book that you require an aisle seat. Some of our workshops/events are run by external groups so do email us in advance to double-check.

  • Bookable Access Facilities

    We are happy provide a free PA ticket for anyone with access requirements. If you require an PA ticket please call us on 02089802092 and we’ll discuss your requirements and arrange a free ticket for your PA.

  • Seating / Standing event

    Unless otherwise stated, all of our events/workshops are seated. When we do have a standing event, we will always provide seating if it is required.

    If you require a seated view of the stage or have any specific access requirements, please email us in advance of your visit and we can arrange this with you.

    Information on the seating available in each space is available in the ‘Spaces’ section.

  • Lighting

    None of our events use flashing or strobe lighting unless otherwise stated.

  • Accessible performance spaces

    We believe in flexible performance spaces. Whilst some of our stages are raised, we will endeavour to change our performance space to accommodate all accessibility requirements.

  • Baby changing facilities

    A baby changing table can be found in the toilets at The Gallery Café on the Lower Ground floor and in the toilets of The Mulberry Hall.

  • Customers with Medical Requirements

    If you need to bring food, drink or medication with you, we are happy to accommodate this. Please let us know in advance, so we can alert our team.

Closest Underground station: Bethnal Green (Central Line) is a 5 minutes walk away, but please note this station does not have step-free access.

Bus

Services: 8, 106, 254, 309, 388, D3, D6

Transport for London’s website states: “All our bus routes are served by low-floor vehicles, with a dedicated space for one wheelchair user & an access ramp. Buses can also be lowered to reduce the step-up from the pavement.”

Car

The nearest residential roads to us are Victoria Park Square and Approach Road, parking can sometimes be found here - but please check the parking signage before leaving your vehicle.

Taxi

If you are travelling to St. Margaret’s House via a taxi, we suggest you ask them to pull into Peel Grove, by St John's Primary School, Peel Grove, London E2 9LR.

This is the same side of Old Ford Road as SMH, and is approximately a 200m step-free distance to the front of SMH, past The Create Place, The Canvas, and Ayoka (charity shop). Depending on the venue your event is taking place in, e.g., the Hall, Chapel, or Gallery Café, this distance will increase but there is step-free access to all three of these venues.

Transport for London’s website states: “All taxis (black cabs) have a wheelchair ramp and some private hire vehicles (minicabs) have step free access.
