Second Hand September - Repair Cafe

  • St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

Join us at St Margaret's House for our first Repair Cafe, as we celebrate Second Hand September! We'll be using a number of spaces across our site to help you mend and repair items including:

Clothes mending and repairs - our volunteers will guide you mending skills such as how to sew on a missing or loose button, hemming tricks and tips, and how to repair small holes.

Small electrical appliances - our volunteer electrician will look at small household electrical appliances and either mend it, or recommend what can be done with it!

IT equipment - bring in any items that don't work as well as they used to, or any IT issues you're facing, and our volunteer will do their best to help resolve the issue or recommend solutions.

Bike 101 - Come along and see a demonstration on how to fix a puncture or fix a loose bike chain. This demo is for beginners who need some novice bike repair support!

DIY 101 - Woodwork for Wellbeing facilitator Alex will demonstrate the use of basic hand tools for general DIY around the house. They'll also be available to answer frequently asked questions for fixing things around the home.

As well as our Repair Cafe, you can also browse & shop clothes from Ayoka at their pop-up stall in the Mulberry Hall. Found a piece that needs some adjustments? Join of team of mending experts and learn the skills to mend, upcycle or adjust your new -found treasure.

We will also be joined by our artist in residence, costume designer and maker, Sophie Lincoln. Sophie will be displaying some of her pieces, as well as creating costumes from some of our Ayoka donations - watch Sophie at work, ask questions, make suggestions & get involved in the process!
