Charity Shop Hop!
This exciting campaign launched last June and has become now a great ongoing community project for Ayoka and all the fantastic Charity shops that contributed to making it possible.
The map, brought to life with the help of Bethnal Green artist Shahena Begum, highlights the eight collaborating local charity shops and guides you around our favourite part of the city to discover some of London’s best hidden treasures!
The Charity Shop Hop! tote bag also helps find East London’s finest gem most practically and sustainably.
Shahena Begum is a local artist who draws inspiration from the Victorian charm in Tower Hamlets.
As a devoted mother, Shahena has come to discover the importance of community, creative expression, and personal fulfilment. She weaves these elements into her art, using drawing, and photography as therapeutic tools. The imperfections in her wobbly lines become part of the beauty—a celebration of authenticity.
Shahena’s artistic return began with a project inspired by the Palestine flags scattered throughout Tower Hamlets. These vibrant symbols of solidarity resonated deeply within the otherwise quiet community.
Her collaboration with Ayoka on the Charity Shop Hop map was equally profound, allowing her to work with digital art, meet new people and grow her confidence as an artist.
Her dedication to Charity and community is rooted in her Islamic faith, “Every act of kindness is charity”. By this principle, she channels her passion into meaningful charitable and community endeavours.
