Fashion Exhibition showcasing the works of Positive East’s Re:Assure Women’s Project
In this exhibition, we show work that was completed in the Stitch Sisters sewing group at Positive East. This group is part of the Re:Assure Women’s project, a dedicated service for refugee, asylum-seeking or migrant women who are living with HIV and who have experienced traumatic events.
Engaging in a mindful activity like sewing can significantly enhance mental well-being by allowing us to focus on the present moment, fostering a state of mindfulness. When we concentrate on the repetitive motions and delicate details involved in sewing, we naturally slow down and become more attuned to our thoughts and emotions. This process helps reduce stress and anxiety, providing a calm space to process feelings and thoughts.
Moreover, the act of creating something tangible with our own hands instils a sense of accomplishment and pride. Completing a sewing project, whether it's a simple repair or a complex garment, gives us a feeling of productivity and purpose. This sense of achievement can boost self-esteem and contribute to a more positive outlook on life.
Overall, sewing combines the therapeutic benefits of mindfulness with the satisfaction of creativity, making it a powerful tool for improving mental health.
