To mark the opening of Family Ties photography exhibition, we continue our ‘In Conversation With’ series of Private View Events on Tuesday 9th July at 6.30pm in the Gallery Cafe.
Family Ties photography exhibition is curated by Kasia Kowalska and features thirteen artists who address compelling questions around how photography can both shape and reveal our distinctive perspectives on the subjects of memory, family, migration and temporality.

The event will open with a short panel discussion about the exhibition themes between the exhibition curator Kasia Kowalska and two of the exhibiting artists, Ania Dabrowska and Mina Boromand, hosted by Virginia Orr, Exhibitions Coordinator at St. Margaret’s House.
MINA BOROMAND is an award-winning Iranian British artist and photographer currently based in London. In her practice she draws on her personal history of activism, revolution, displacement, idealism and anguish to inform her work which, in mirroring her life and experience, crosses the boundaries of mediums, styles, character and composition. She has a BA in Photography from London Metropolitan University. She was awarded ‘Women in Photography’ bursary by The Royal Photographic Society in 2022 and features in Breathing Space: Iranian Women Photographers (Thames & Hudson, 2023). She recently exhibited with Kvasnevski Schwartz Projects Gallery in New York as part of Fire In Her Eyes exhibition and at Les Rencontres d’Arles RE /construction exhibition.
ANIA DĄBROWSKA was born in Poland and now lives and works in East London. She is an award-winning artist, photographer and curator. She works with photography, installation, text, sound, and moving image. She has an MA in Photography from UAL London College of Communication. She was selected for 2007 National Portrait Gallery’s Photographic Portrait Prize, the winner of 2003 Observer Hodge Photographic Award and was awarded The Wellcome Trust People Award 2008-2011. She is the author of A Lebanese Archive: From the collection of Diab Alkarssifi (Book Works and Arab Image Foundation, 2015). She is a Senior Lecturer in Photography and Critical and Contextual Studies at London Metropolitan University.
The event is free but booking is essential.
