Henna For Wellbeing

  • St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

Mindful workshops teaching the art of henna through community, and the art’s global journey through resistance, history, medicine, and faith. These workshops are for anyone looking to learn how to practice henna on themselves at home, to learn a calming and creative practice, and to learn more about where henna comes from and how it came into use.

It's also an inclusive, safe space for people of all backgrounds and ages to come together and make new friends.

Henna is an age-old practice that allows you not only to produce beautiful artwork, but to mindfully connect with the body, and with nature. In the Henna for Wellbeing workshop, you'll learn from Qayyah of Henna London not only to practise the art of henna effectively in a safe and inclusive space, but to discover more about the journey and history of henna, henna in traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda, the importance of henna in community, faith, and art, as well as henna in the context of decolonisation. As well as an opportunity to pick up a new creative skill (or to brush off an old one!) you’ll have the chance to connect with like-minded creatives in East London and to leave with a beautiful henna design. A portion of the proceeds for this event will go to supporting Medical Aid for Palestinians.

Qayyah is originally from Liverpool and has been living in East London for six years. She is of British, UPite, and Sindhi background, and practises sufism and yoga.

She started working as a henna artist when she was 15, and continued to practise and teach henna art (or mehndi) while studying foreign languages and training as a voiceover artist and journalist.

As well as coaching, Qayyah is now training in somatic therapy, personal training, and yoga teaching, with a view to focusing her energy into working in holistic and integrative wellbeing.
