WORKSHOP: Clay with Words

  • St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

Come join us for a playful afternoon of creative writing and making with clay. We will be exploring what we love and care about through different writing formats (haiku, flash fiction, manifestos) and creating sculptural responses in clay. Writing prompts, air dry clay and all sorts of materials will be offered to shape your work. You can then take your creations home! No prior experience of writing or art is needed. Just bring yourselves and your imagination. Open for anyone ages 14+.

This workshop is generously supported by Engage’s 'Let’s Create Art' bursary and will be offered for free. Please let us know if you have any access requirements.

About the instructors: Emily and Mel met at Milton Keynes Gallery Inclusive Practice in the Arts Programme. They subsequently delivered workshops together with a focus on accessibility and mindfulness for young people with additional needs and their families.

Emily's background is in visual arts and ceramics. Her practice investigates material properties focusing on colour, pattern and form. She has delivered workshops in health, community, museums, galleries and further education settings.
Mel’s background is in drama and creative writing. She is the director of a CIC dedicated to offering inclusive creative writing workshops. She believes in the healing potential of words and that everyone has a story to tell.
Their common approach is playful and interested in creating an inclusive, positive space to make in. Emily and Mel are just as interested in processes and curiosity as they are in products.
