WORKSHOP: London in Focus - Visual Storytelling

  • St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

Celebrate London and its people through a creative workshop blending photography, drawing, and storytelling, inspired by an exhibition featuring local artists.

A creative workshop that brings together people of all faiths and cultures to celebrate community, creativity, and shared stories. Taking place alongside our Community Eid Party event and the Memories In East London exhibition by Shahena Begum, the workshop features work from local photographers who have explored London and shared their personal visual stories.

Inspired by the exhibition, participants will create their own diorama—a small, three-dimensional scene inside a box that blends photography, craft, and storytelling. Whether based on a personal memory, imagination, or the city itself, this hands-on activity invites playfulness and creativity.

Shahena and Pierre, from Mindful Photo Lab, will guide the process, offering support and inspiration to bring each unique story to life. Boxes will be provided, but anyone is welcome to bring a box they like along with small objects or materials to personalise their creation. Photographs can also be printed on-site to be included inside the box, making it an opportunity to merge different elements into a meaningful, visual narrative.

Alongside the diorama-making, Shahena will lead a relaxed drawing session, open to all, regardless of skill level. Whether experienced or just curious, this is a chance to experiment with drawing as a form of storytelling in a welcoming, supportive environment.

This workshop offers a chance to connect with others, express creativity, and explore new ways to tell visual stories. It’s a space for discovery, imagination, and celebrating the many ways in which people experience and document the world around them.
