WORKSHOP: Sounds Like Home International Women's Choir performance and workshop

  • Mulberry Hall at St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

A relaxed, interactive performance to celebrate International Women's Day, singing songs from the places we call home.

Come and join the Sounds Like Home Choir at St Margaret’s House on International Women’s Day for a relaxed performance and workshop. Enjoy a wide variety of songs in multiple languages, sung in acapella harmony.

Sounds Like Home consists of women of all backgrounds, ages and abilities, who come together to share and sing the songs that connect them to the places they’ve called home. Together, we explore the origin, language and musical genre of the songs that have shaped who we are and where we’re from. We exchange stories, lyrics and melodies, and sing our way around the world.

Please join us on 8th March to celebrate International Women’s Day through the joyful and collective power of singing! The choir will share some of their repertoire before teaching one of their songs to the group.

Sounds Like Home is led by Community Choir leader Ellen Muriel and Assisted by Asha Wilson. The project is produced by Counterpoints Arts with support from Cultural Hackney, Old Street Community Pot and Hoxton Hall.

Testimonials: “It’s clear to see the sense of community and enjoyment that has built within the choir and this really carried through to the audience in your performance at the Migration Museum. It was so lovely to host you and such a beautiful performance. The variation of languages and stories from the choir that introduced each song made for such a special performance and is what makes this a unique and important choir!” Harriet Costello (Events and Front of House Manager at The Migration Museum)
