As a part of the Discover Festival, join us for a special poetry workshop with Ruth Beddow in the St Margaret’s House garden.
This workshop will encourage you to step away from the hustle and bustle, and be present through observation and writing. The traditional view of “nature poetry” can be stuffy, one dimensional and outdated. Taking inspiration from the our own experience, the sensory details of our surroundings, and diverse examples of nature poetry, we’ll develop mindful nature poems that stand out. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll follow the same schedule from inside and notice the impact this has on our work.
Come and explore your creativity through this one-off poetry workshop in a friendly and supportive environment of creative friends and peers. All experience levels and none are most welcome. There’s a poet in all of us!
About the facilitator:
Ruth Beddow is a poet originally from the West Midlands, living in London. Her debut collection ‘The Thought Sits With Me’ was published by Nine Pens in 2022. Since then she has been published in journals and anthologies, judged the 2024 EHP Barnard Prize, and spent two years running inclusive and accessible poetry workshops at Morocco Bound bookshop in Bermondsey. Ruth’s writing and teaching is grounded in the belief that poetry is for everyone, poetry is therapeutic, and that everyone can write poetry.
