Discover the Art of Cyanotypes: Learn How to Create Your Unique Artwork
As part of the Discovery Festival at St Margaret's House, we invite you to a creative workshop exploring the world of cyanotype printmaking. Under the guidance of Marina Longo, an experienced analogue photographer and cyanotype artist, you will be introduced to the basics of the medium, including its history and chemistry. With sunlight-sensitive paper, brushes, and a variety of materials at your disposal, you'll transform your vision into your unique piece of art. No prior experience needed—just bring your curiosity and leave with your own cyanotype artwork. While you immerse yourself in the process, you'll also find inspiration surrounding you. Marina's own works will be featured in a special exhibition at the St. Margaret House Chapel, offering a glimpse into her artistic journey. But that's not all. You won't just be learning and creating; you'll be exhibiting. Participants will have the chance to showcase their cyanotype creations alongside Marina's and join a small opening celebration taking place right after the workshop! Marina is a self-taught artist based in East London.
Her work delves into the captivating allure of urban environments.
Through the medium of cyanotype, she transforms her analog photographs, featuring travel series, brutalist buildings, and industrial architecture, into captivating works of art.
After capturing her subjects on film, the negatives are then translated into acetate prints, which serve as the base for her creations. Utilising a variety of papers, including watercolour and handmade rug paper, she employs Japanese washi and sponge brushes to achieve diverse effects and textures. The final pieces come to life through exposure to sunlight or UV light, resulting in ethereal cyanotype compositions
She held her first solo exhibition at St Margaret House in Bethnal Green last July and is currently preparing for her second. She was also selected to exhibit her works at The New Artist' exhibition at The Boomer Gallery near London Bridge.
In addition to these exhibitions, she actively participates in various arts and crafts markets, including the Backyard Market on Brick Lane, Pexmas in Brixton, and the Crafty Fox Market at King's Cross, where she showcases her unique artworks. Furthermore, her work has been highlighted in 'The Director’s Cut' at the Woolwich Print Fair 2023.
