Join us from 14th - 25th March for ‘Paint it Green’ a photographic exploration of sustainability and paint recycling by Joanne Segars. Viewing is by appointment only, book using the link below.
The exhibition highlights @forestrecyclingproject and the important work they do to recycle, re-purpose and re-sell leftover paint. We all know about replacing single-use water bottles and the damaging environmental effects of air travel. But there’s much less awareness of the harmful consequences of paint manufacture and waste. Yet each year, 50m litres of paint goes to waste – enough to fill 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools. But reusing leftover paint has saved 1.4m kgs of Co2 emissions nationally.
Paint it Green tackles this little-known aspect of the climate emergency and tracks the recycling and reuse journey of leftover paint from the point of donation at council waste disposal sites, through to re-processing, re-sale and re-use.
The exhibition’s picture frames have been donated and upcycled using FRP’s paint.
Joanne Segars is a portrait and social documentary photographer based in Hackney, London
‘I believe that photography is a powerful tool that can reveal much about society and the human condition. It’s why I’m motivated to take photographs that tell us something about people and the world we live in - to tell stories through images. That could be a studio portrait, an environmental portrait or a photo essay. It’s all about capturing the essence of the moment and the person.
Educated at the British Academy of Photography, the University of Warwick and John Moores University in Liverpool I’ve followed my heart into photography.
I work with businesses, charities and individuals to help them communicate their message, whether it’s their personal brand or a local story of local or national significance. My work has been published in local newspapers and has been exhibited across London.’
