St. Margaret's House is hosting three writing workshops aimed at self discovery, for writers and other individuals who are seeking solace, community and to write in response to life's complications and mysteries. Using games, discussion and inventive writing prompts, each workshop offers the opportunity to explore the self through writing, and leave with a finished piece. There are recommendations for who might benefit from each workshop, but all three should help you refine your writing practice, connect to deep truths about yourself and feel creatively energised. The facilitator, F. Zeeshan Choudhury is a professional teacher and writer.
Memoir: Thursday January 18th 6-8 PM.
Memoir seeks to make sense of our lives through narrative. This workshop will work with the subjectivity of memory, finding ways to embrace multiple truths about our lived experience. You will leave with a piece that captures a memory in all its complexity.
Ideal for: individuals seeking to explore and make sense of life’s complications and difficulties.
Myth: Saturday February 10th 1-3pm.
Writing with mythical archetypes can help us understand our place in the world in conversation with ancient wisdom. Using games and prompts based on tarot, fairytale and cross-cultural mythology, in this workshop you will write an original piece that responds to myth and lore.
Ideal for: Individuals who are searching for their place in the world.
Aphorism: Thursday March 21st 6-8pm.
Aphorisms are individual truths that transcend borders, eras, and identities. Through collaborative and individual activities, this workshop empowers you to articulate deep insights and write precisely and authentically.
Ideal for: Individuals seeking answers to a significant question within themselves.
